Detailed explanation of anti-corrosion methods for metal pipelines

There are various types of metal pipes, including ordinary steel pipes, galvanized steel pipes, stainless steel pipes, copper pipes, stainless steel lined plastic composite pipes, ductile iron pipes, and so on. Except for a few exceptions, most metal pipelines require anti-corrosion treatment. There are various mainstream methods for pipeline anti-corrosion, especially for external anti-corrosion of water and sewage pipelines, which include several main types such as epoxy coal tar pitch, epoxy resin coating, and polyethylene jacket coating. These anti-corrosion methods can usually be used for internal anti-corrosion, provided that they do not involve drinking water. Internal anti-corrosion usually uses water-based anti-corrosion products such as cement mortar and epoxy resin coating.
The order of different types of anti-corrosion coatings, pipeline laying types, and anti-corrosion operations is as follows:
1. Common types and comparisons of anti-corrosion coatings for sewage pipelines:
1. Type of anti-corrosion
a. Epoxy coal tar pitch anti-corrosion layer: composed of epoxy resin, coal tar pitch, curing agent and anti rust pigment, it has high strength, good insulation performance, water resistance, heat resistance, corrosion medium resistance, and antibacterial properties. Suitable for anti-corrosion of underwater pipelines and metal structures. The construction is relatively simple, using cold coating technology, safe operation, and less use of machinery.
b. Polyethylene coating layer: The polyethylene plastic is thermoplastic onto the surface of the pipeline through a specialized machine, forming a hard plastic shell tightly bonded to the pipe wall. Has good application performance, mechanical strength, and suitable temperature range. It is one of the high-performance anti-corrosion coatings.

c. Epoxy resin coating: There are various types of epoxy resin anti-corrosion materials, such as epoxy water-based coatings and epoxy powder coatings. Among them, the epoxy powder coating sprays the powder onto the treated pipe to form a uniform, continuous, and sturdy anti-corrosion film. Thermosetting epoxy powder coating is suitable for pipeline anti-corrosion in harsh environments such as high salt and alkali soils, high salt seawater, and desert areas. Epoxy water-based coatings are used to prevent corrosion by brushing or roller coating pipelines. These materials must meet relevant hygiene and safety requirements when used in drinking water pipelines.
