How to Check Whether Heat-Shrink Sleeves Are Installed Correctly？

The closure end of the sleeve shall be heated gently, overlapped onto the other end of the sleeve and pressed gently into place. The closure shall be heated and a roller used to bond the closure and remove any wrinkles.

Sleeve shrinking shall be started by heating circumferentially at the centre of the sleeve and heating towards one edge of the sleeve until shrinking is completed. In a similar manner, the remaining side shall be heated until fully recovered to the pipe. The shrinking procedure shall be completed using long circumferential strokes over the entire sleeve surface area to ensure a uniform bond.

The sleeve is fully recovered when:

There are no cold spots or dimples on the sleeve surface.

The weld bead profile can be seen through the sleeve.

After the sleeve has cooled, adhesive has flowed from both ends of the sleeve for the full pipe circumference.

The sleeve has conformed fully to the pipe and the adjacent coating

Sleeves shall be of the correct length so that the completed (fully shrunk) sleeve shall overlap the adjoining factory coating by a minimum 50 mm.

Personnel involved in such operations shall be fully trained, familiar with the application process and certified by the heat shrink sleeve manufacturer to install the selected system for the project.

After application, the heat shrinkable material shall be allowed to cool to an ambient temperature.
